Responding strongly to the news that Irish Retailer Superquinn, has been placed in receivership, NIFDA Executive Director Michael Bell said: "I have worked with the food and drink Industry for 27 years and a failure of this scale is unprecedented in my experience.

Small, medium and large food and drink manufacturers and suppliers right across Northern Ireland and Ireland are owed up to €100m from Superquinn. Failure to pay NIFDA companies what they are rightly due will have a disastrous effect on the supply chain and affect the immediate viability of many food and drink companies, potentially placing thousands of jobs at risk. Any resolution must benefit all creditors."

NIFDA is calling on our local MLA’s to engage at the highest level to ensure a satisfactory outcome.  The Northern Ireland Food and Drink supply chain supports upwards of 90,000 jobs. It is Northern Irelands biggest Industry.  Superquinn’s collapse poses a massive threat to supplier companies’ viability, and to those jobs.
